Does being pansexual mean you have to be willing to A. Have Sex with the person and B. Have a realtionship.

Personally I don't think it does, but a friend disagrees.

I mentioned to a friend I wanted a T-Shirt that says "Question Gender" or something like that. They told me that since I am a ciswoman I couldn't wear one and I'd be a hypocrite.

Thoughts?

Proto-Indo-European question
Are there any folk familiar with PIE out there? If so, what are the conjectural translations for Man, Living One, Metalsmith, Herdsman, Night, Helper, and Dawn? (aka Adam, Eve, Cain, Abel, Lilith and, for my purposes, Awan and Azura from the apocrypha) Thanks in advance!

Swedish
Hi all,

I have some questions to ask about Swedish:

a. Is Swedish closer to Norwegian/Danish/Icelandic, in the sense of Spanish is to Portuguese?

b. What has been the easiest and hardest part about learning Swedish? [The only Germanic language I know is English]

c. Is the Tisus/Swedex exam hard?

Thanks.

Hey!
I'm new, I just joined. I've been clicking back to this community for a long, long, time, but never formally added it to my f-list because it's a rather wistful thing for me. I'm going to be sixteen in October and have wanted to dye my hair for a good year, year and a half now, but my mom won't let me, but I'm really crazy about at least trying it once... to know what it's like. You know? And by telling me no, my mom just makes me want to do it more, but she'd kill me. Once, I went to get highlights with my Aunt without her knowing... Haha, to say the least, she was hardly thrilled. I'm not sure why she's so serious about it. :/

But, anyway. To sate my own curiosity, I was wondering what color you guys think I would look good in? I was always curious to try pink, but I thought it might make me look kind of... red in the face? I'm not sure. I'm really not a great stylist in any sense of the word. XD I don't want anything plain, and I'm a fan of all colors of the rainbow. Pic under the cut. :)

Sorry, cheesy ID for dA. :'D )

Thanks for any feedback you offer! :D If anyone is curious, my headphones were issued by Tropicana. I found them at my grandma and my mom thinks they're from the 70s. They're a radio headset and they still work! :D

Halloween Handcast Paper Ghost and Tombstone Ornaments
I made some Halloween ornaments out of handcast paper using cookie cutters and I really like how they turned out, the pictures don't do them justice. The Ghosts were done with a glitter glaze and a sparkle acrylic paint then I glued on Google eyes. My favorite eyes were the ones that Lee (boyfriend) found for me (the blue eyed ghost) where there are eye lashes on the eyes. They are soooo cool! I just love these!

The tombstones were painted with acrylic paint then we looked up some true funny tombstone sayings then added them to the ornaments and sealed them. These were sooo much fun to make and I just love them! I sooo want to do some more of these!!!

extended writing in L2s
Out of curiosity, when writing essays or the like in one of your L2s, how many of you start by writing it in (one of) your L1(s) and translate it into the L2, and how many of you work primarily directly in the L2? And how has this changed over the course of your learning the language? I've found that in the early stages of learning Japanese I worked primarily directly in Japanese, but as I moved on to longer essays on more complex topics and with more grammatical requirements, I tend to write more and more of my first draft in English, I think partly because I have more faith in my ability to write more than just an extended grammatical exercise that way.

Just Me.....
Though I should say, 'Welcome Back, and just were the hell you have been', should be in order. Well many thoughts have come to mind and sometimes think the world is moving too fast and I want to get off.

I have been visiting my second home of Washington state and do feel at home there. However home is were you make it and not were you take your boots off for the night. Still I ponder of what to make of myself. A mature gentleman almost 30 and-a-half. Right.

Living lost or living single I learned to deal with. A road trip from Washington back to Arizona gave me more than enough thinking time. During that trip, me and my trusty I-pod were singing along to the many songs I downloaded. In the back of my mind I thought of the passing of a special friend. Though its been told that I'm not gay enough since I had a girlfriend in high school, I pity the man whose "former friends" talk about him behind his back and his so called wholesome values. I wrote him off a few years back. No explanation. Just wrote him off. No regrets. Looking at a dated 80's video melted my heart of my one time female love and the many weekend nights we'd go dancing. Eyes tearing up I smiled and thought how I matured. It has taken a few years, but God almighty I've done it.

*waves* Hello. I am new here. Not entirely new to knitting, but close enough. My grandmother tried to teach me, but knitting was always a lot like chemistry for me- I could sit and absorb information for hours on end, but as soon as I got up? My brain always went 'INFO DUMP' and everything I learned dribbled out my left ear.

I've always gone back to knitting, but I've also always had problems with my wrists and never got very far. I've also go the attention span of a ferret on crack. You can see where this could be a problem. But over the last few months I've had my health issues sorted out (carpal tunnel surgery, and splints out the wazoo) and I'm able to knit again. YAY! I've been on a pretty hardcore kick lately, finishing up a few projects that had been languishing for a couple of years, and looking up simple baby things to knit for my three month old niece, or preemie type things I could knit for the hospital volunteer society. So I've been doing some research and learning LOTS of knew things. Youtube is a godsend. It's always easier for me to learn by watching someone DO the thing I want to learn, than just looking at pictures in a book.

All that said, I've got a problem with a pattern I've been eyeballing for a few months. You can find it here. It looks like something I could do- an ambitious project, I'm thinking, but not entirely out of my reach, y'know? I have a friend whose baby is due in October, and I'd like to make the newborn version (and the other for my niece, eventually).

My problems:

1) the instructions for turning from the top down the back say 'like a Dutch heel'- which I came across in my research, and that's only done on multiple needles as far as I can tell. Problem being a) I don't know how to do that (but can learn), and b) it doesn't say anything about using dpns in the 'supplies' section, and when I went to check the other patterns to see if this was just something I should know about or if other patterns made specific mentions of using them, they did. And this one doesn't. I had assumed it was to be worked on straight needles because it didn't say otherwise, but what the hell do I know? Thoughts and/or advice? It won't really stand in my way except to confuse me/make me feel dumb/keep me from starting on it tonight.

2) In the same vein, the instructions about picking up stitches on the right needle confuses me. I'm trying to envision how this is going to be worked in my head, and I'm coming up blank at this part. Can someone help clarify this for me?

3) Since it's getting on toward winter, I'd like to make the tighter version, which is apparently done by twisting the YO stitches when purling on the next row. Except... I have no idea what the hell that means or how to do it. (This is what I mean when I say that I need to watch someone do it to know- or at least clearer instructions than were given there). I've tried googling it and all I get is how to do a yarn over (which I already know how to do).

Any help is very much appreciated. <3

Two questions
Hi! I'm a simple living single parent who is trying to incorporate more vegan meals in our family diet. We eat mostly vegetarian meals for financial and environmental reasons, but I'm trying to reduce our environmental impact further. I live in a rural area where it is difficult to obtain some of the more diverse grains/veggies/veg alternatives, so we do the best we can. Anyway, if you could please give me info on the following, I'd be incredibly grateful!

1) Powdered soy milk. I checked the archives and found one measly review of this. Does anyone use it with regularity? What brands do you use? Would it successfully replace the use of the dairy version of nonfat dry powdered milk? How do you find it cheaply (online or in store?)

2) Making your own soy yogurt. I've not even tried to make my own yogurt, but I was thinking about if it would be possible to make your own soy yogurt at home. Has anyone done it? Do you know of an online recipe for such?

Thank you so much!

New to San Diego, jobless, and soon homeless.
Short story is this:

I just finished a volunteer gig, that while it covered room and board, didn't pay (obviously). So my meager funds ran out and I am left with $20 to my name. Partly to my fault, and partly just the way things worked out.

I have a place to stay for the next week, then I will be homeless, I guess. I just have an army duffel bag of stuff, so I don't need to worry about storage too much.

I have a job starting in three weeks.

However, I need a job like now to fill in the blanks and to work parttime once the other job starts. I'm in San Diego, relatively new to the area, and the friend closest to me lives two hours' bus drive away (I can stay with him if I truly need to).

So for you San Diegan's, know of a job that will pay right away? I have tons of hospitality/tourism background, and have worked retail and waitressed a little.

Also, places to stay for free? A friend said to look into Salvation Army, but what is it like getting into shelters and the like? Stories? Warnings?
