*big, cheesy grin*
I FINALLY had the chance to VP with our most fabulous
dodgingwndshlds! Our connection was a bit wonky, tho... Sadness. :( Robot-like quality video makes ASL quite difficult to understand. [I miss you! Perhaps a trip to Portland is in order soon... Cowboy bar?]
Who *else* has VP? Someone must! I need to add people to my address book. It's rather barren at the moment.
PS -- I have a Sidekick 2 for sale. [inc. charger (wall and car, if needed), carrying case, wired headset, manual, and new SIM card] Anyone interested?
In other exciting news, although I've had quite the trial as of late with regard to medical issues, I finally managed to see my GP today. In a very pleasant surprise, I was not there for a million hours and I had a very productive visit! All my scrips have been renewed, all my referrals have been submitted, and I was pleased with the quality of the latest report from the neurologist. If only I didn't have to wait til nearly November to see the spinal-neurosurgeon! [Gotta love how a top-tier priority referral takes just shy of six months!]
Pride this past week-end was enjoyable. My room is slowly but surely getting back in to organised cleanliness. My parcel o' love from
shakay finally rocked up. I found out recently that I was awarded a nifty scholarship for excellence in leadership in the queer community. And ... that may be it for the updates.
Where are my Netflix House DVDs?!? I was planning on hunkering down with them this evening... *le pout*

At least you were all on camera, not laying down, eating with one hand, holding a baby with the other and expecting me to understand your half assed fingerspelling at the speed of light.... Some people who use VPs are completely clueless.
You looked great! I'll call you again when I get a chance!

ROFLMAO Did you *seriously* have a client do that to you recently? haha *holds head in hands* Some people really ARE clueless!
*blush* And why, thank you! ;) I'm looking forward to more phone calls! Soon, I hope!

I actually just just a webcam-type-thingy for the purpose of video chatting, and haven't yet had a chance to try it out ... *smile*
heh Your typo made me make a funny, squished-up face for a second because I didn't get it and then there was the lightbulb moment...
If you'd like an excuse to try out the new webcam-type-thingy [Oooh, I'm a punk!], just lemme know! :)

*does a little happy dance* [HEY! It was done butchly! I swear!]
We should definitely have a VP chat! And soon!

ps: What's the medical issue? I missed something, clearly.
I've been having some pretty severe (and getting worse) neuromuscular problems since January 2005. I've been getting the run around and have been ignored, accused of being a drug addict (narcotic seeker), etc. I still have some other symptoms (and past medical events) that aren't explained by my most recent diagnosis, however there is something now on paper.
As my neurology report reads, 'The patient has vastly beyond age progressed cervical spine disease. Now presents with bilateral radiculopathy and imaging shows early signs of intrinsic cord signal change.'
In dummy speak, my spine is SHOT; the nerves that run out of my spine on both sides are compromised causing severe pain and sensory impairment; and my spinal cord is being compressed, causing gradually worsening sensory, motor, and function problems.

Ooooh they have house on netflix? I may have to rejoin!
Ok, but the point of this is that I just found out I can video conference. My ASL is pretty elementary (I just finished ASL 2), but I'd love to have a conversation buddy if you're interested. What do you think?

Season 1 and 2. I guess that's all there is on DVD. It's SO sad! I want MORE!!!
Are you taking ASL at uni?
Are you taking ASL at uni?
Well, two seasons is about forty episodes more than I've seen!
I'm taking ASL at the uni. I start ASL 3 in September. I can talk about my day, describe people, and explain what NUJLS does, but I think I'm still using English grammar . . .

At *the* uni? ??? I like how you described what you can talk about... Your day, people's appearances, and crazy-queer-Jews-who-have-big-conference s-and-are-generally-nuts. hehehe
Not using English grammar will take you a hell of a long time to stop doing, trust me.

Well, not exactly into the crazy-queer-Jew-conference thing. I can give a basic explanation of NUJLS. Yanno, I help students.
RE grammar: I have no clue if I'm learning quickly or slowly or what. The only other language learning experience I've had is Spanish. That grammar came quite naturally to me, but probably because I've known Spanish speakers all my life. I'm just not sure if the teachers sign to us using ASL or if they dumb it down to help us learn. And the next class starts in a few weeks, so I'd better find my $$!

Typically, they don't really teach in ASL. It's usually some closer relative of Pidgeon Signed English/Contact Sign (PSE/CS).
Damn. Well, I'll get there . . . somehow.
Yes, you will!
Classes are great to learn vocabulary and basics, just like any other language class. You must be actively involved in and engaged with the Deaf community to truely learn our culture and our language. :)
